Fuck Me, Rob's updated the software

Postby Rob » Sun Dec 28, 2014 11:09 pm

Sorry for the short notice, and the fact that it's totally half-arsed. We were having lots of session errors over Xmas, and the VM got screwed-up partway through upgrading Ubuntu (blah blah blah) and in the end I decided I'd upgrade the forum software at the same time, what with it being about a fricking decade out of date or something.

So a bunch of features and stuff you probably all love and rely upon isn't installed in this version of the forum (yet). Please make me aware of problems etc in this thread here* and I'll deal with them as soon as work and family allow.

(Belated) merry Xmas and a happy New Year, fuckmuppets.

:-)

*I'd put it in the feedback forum but no fucker ever reads that shit - at least in here someone might notice it :-)

So, let the fault and nit-picking enumeration begin;

1) need the citadel logo putting back at the top
2) probably need to offer something other than this awfully dated-looking default style
3) the 'random sub-heading' would be nice to put back
4) this time around, would be nice to hack all of the links in the historical posts so that they point to the right URL for this forum etc - no more 'ultimate-wurlde/phpBB' or 'robsoftcloud.net/phpBB2' type shenanigans.

Have at it, I'm all ears*.

one potential plus point is that after about an hour of it fucking around, the indexing seems to have ended and I'm tentatively going to say we appear to have a half-usable search function. Joy!

Can we set the forum security so that the likes of Google Bot can't read our stuff?

That would be a good thing, as I don't want to get back on the ATF's radar.
