One of the only questionables I'm concerned with is.... Regeneration....

though, On the rooftops shooting at people from cover granted by 60-95% chameleon is also nice.

In morrowind you really were handicapping yourself if you didn't immediately go for the renewable soul gem, and repeatedly soul trap golden saints into it.

At the end of five hours of mucking about, I went forth a human juggernaut.

EDIT: How many of us are playing marksmen?!

Someone roll a warrior and tell me if this game is any good.

Don't really need to to be able to tell you that it is.

EDIT: The longer version: as you become proficent with combat skills you get more/better effects. Block for example keeps scaling up the damage it reduces, and at expert it can stun the person you blocked. Various weapons do more damage and get alternate moves as you get better with them, and armor degrades slower, and you become less encumbered by your armor the more proficent you are in it. Toss on some magical augmentation, which you can do with little problem, and you shouldn't have too much issue getting through the game with sheer brute force.

A rephrase then: Someone roll a warrior and regale me with tales of adventure. I don't have the game but I can already tell you that picking locks, joining Thieves' Guilds, shooting guys in the face with a bow are not my idea of highjinks. Collecting shiny swords and using them to good effect, however, is. All you guys have been talking about has been the other stuff.

I started a heavy armor user that only fights with fists. I uh...punched a lot of goblins and rats. Really hard though.

Actually, even as a thief I couldn't help doing my first arena fight with a sword and shield. It was beyond awesome stepping up to the gate, hearing the announcer, and then clanging weapons with an opponent while the crowd cheers (and they actually cheer when you make a good hit, or go "ooooh" when someone gets smacked really hard). So awesome.

I have a Witchhunter and my main weapon's a fucking sweet 1h sword. So yeah, for melee, this game's awesome. Don't hesitate to buy it. But given you have the Texan as a girlfriend, be prepared to ration your time playing it 'cause it's a veritable timesink.

Step 1. Buy an Xbox360.
Step 2. Buy a copy of Oblivion.

Done!

Chalk another one up for Marksman. I had a Breton mage named Frenchmore* all lined up, but then I read about the new bow and arrow mechanics and poisoned arrows, and I got all excited. I fight with sword and shield in close combat, though.

I think the main reason I want almost nothing to do with the 360 version is the lack of construction set. It makes sense, but means you're going to be missing out on a ton of awesome players mods.
I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

Wow, 2003. That's quite the callback.

I modded somebody else's mod (Zingo Zango) to change some UI stuff if anyone is interested.

- zooms the world map out a bit (you can change the amount by opening \Data\menus\prefabs\ui_config\map_config.xml in a text editor)
- shows a lot more items, spells, and stats for each page
- lists more quests per page
- allows you to type longer custom class names

Click me! Unzip to your \Oblivion\Data\ directory with paths enabled.

In my case,
medium detail and probable chuggy framerate on my PC < Full detail on 360 less the mods.

I'll manage. :)
