I haven't played my Wii for weeks. I still have to finish Trauma Center and Red Steel.

I'm disliking Wii Sports Baseball at the moment. Seems as soon as you come up against a CPU opponent over about 800 skill, they use every single cheap trick against you. I've yet to bowl more than one successful Splitter. So it's not like I'm able to use the same tricks against them either. And my baseMiis seem to have developed butter fingers giving away cheap singles whenever they can. Either way, blah.
Current Wii fitness score's 36.

And the classic controller's great for Super Mario World. Although I'd not have bought one were it not for the dismal button mapping onto the GC pad.

I got Excite Truck. It's alright. Although I did find myself playing Wii Sports again not long afterwards.

Debbie said 'get a Wii game for your birthday'. And I wasn't exactly spoilt for choice. :|

So I got Resident Evil 4 today and was all set to play it. I turned on my Wii and the remote wouldn't work. Turns out my god damn cat had chewed through the sensor bar cable! I guess I can try to repair it, but it's a good thing it's only $10 (plus $5 for shipping wtf) at the Nintendo store to replace it.

Addendum: updated my order to get two sensor bars, just in case.

In the meantime, I decided to try replacing the sensor bar with two candles, which works but is not ideal. Also, I forgot that I'm not that big a fan of scary games!

I've done the candle trick before, it works okay.

The sensor bar is not actually a sensor bar. It is an IR emitter, with IR sources at both ends of the bar, and the sensor is in the remote. So you can use any two sources of IR placed about a foot apart and it'll work. Here it is on youtube.

I had the fan on and one of the candles kept flickering, so the pointer didn't work perfectly, but it was good enough to play. Sort of like being on a laggy quake server.

Why not get two low-intensity IR LEDs yourself then? Candles are a nice idea, but your cat might burn itself. Animals are stupid.

I wanted to play yesterday and I had candles on hand...? Also it's cooler to say you've played your Wii with the power of fire...?

Yeah, I was amused by how extremely low-tech the sensor bar was. Almost all the cool tech is in the wii-mote and there's actually a lot of stories about how Nintendo was internally not even using the sensor bar for most of the development. In the end they found that without a very quick means to determine positioning on occassion consistancy slowly degraded.

I read one interview where initially the wii-mote was going to have some sort of pulse it sent out to determine positioning and wasn't going to require the sensor bar. Unfortunately it only worked for square-shaped rooms...

That's pretty cool. I want some fan to recreate Rez for the Wii.

If only.

The Flash games that support the Wii-mote are encouraging, so who knows what we might see. Every Extend? :)

srsly me too! I played it twice and couldn't get past the Pueblo fight either time. I did find the shotgun but just as I was turning to face my enemies and equip it, this dude with a bag on his head came and decapitated me with a chainsaw.
