I'm probably just overestimating the placebo effect, but damn, I can't get enough of that shit.

edit: The placebo effect, I mean. Not, not "faith healing" or whatsnoot.

I've gone through two drug studies. One time I got the actual drug they were testing, the other a placebo. Ze placebo does nothing!
I think I've moved my way past faith, positive thinking, and placebos. I need drugs. A lot. A lot a lot.

I am kind of embarrassed about it, so I rarely tell anyone I know in person. I shouldn't be embarrassed, but it feels like a defect ( shut up, Tweegy ). I hide the many pill bottles when I have company over.

Placebos aren't supposed to work - the point of testing with a placebo is to see if the drug does anything beyond "positive thinking".

I guess I just mean that I think people can do some weird stuff without drugs, though I know they can't do anything really crazy like changing their brain chemistry radically, which is what ze drugs are for.

I know they aren't supposed to work. I was trying to say that my illness moves past what thinking you're on good drugs can do.
As I said, without drugs, I'm pretty much a danger to myself and others.

I understand where you are coming from, I'm not debating you. Just from my experience..

I went to the doctor and he said my combination of medications is either making the disintergration more rapid or making it slower. Why even mention it if you don't know? I already figured it may be doing one or the other. He could have just said, "We're not sure if your medication is having any physical effect on your brain."

But it sounds like he's saying it is having an effect, he just doesn't know what that effect is.

Fair enough, but he could just say he doesn't know. It would be nice if a doctor was just straight forward with you. Saying, "I don't know." doesn't make you less of a doctor.
But yeah, I guess he was informing me something was happening.

You know what you need? A university hospital of some sort. They'd love to treat you. At the UW hospital, you can die of a cold, but if you've got something exotic, like say an exotic way to stub your toe, you'll have a crack team of specialists working round the clock to get you right again.

It really does sound like your doctor blows. He's not just a GP, is he?

And getting past the embarassment at being crazy is something that crazy people have to deal with. Some people do, some people don't. I figured, I could just sit there and keep driving and get us totally fucking lost, or I could just admit that I'd forgotten where we were and ask the person in shotgun, you know?

I read that as "ask the person for a shotgun", which probably could have made sense too.

Speaking of university hospitals, that's indeed where I go. UTMB-Galveston ( University of Texas Medical Branch ) And for the most part, I see a psychiatry resident. Yep, resident, not doctor. When the doctor comes in, I know I'm either getting a stronger, more lethal medication or something is wrong with some test I took. I've gone through 8 residents. So it's not like I even have history with any of these people. It's like starting brand new every 6 months or whatever.
I haven't liked a single resident that has seen me. They all made me feel like they thought they were better than me. One told me I just needed to go outside more and gave me no medication. I just nodded and waited until the resident rotation. I managed to avoid the most recent one and only saw her once, I hated her the most.
I'm not completely open with ANYONE about my illness(?). My mother knows most of what's going on, but I still can't manage to tell her about some things. ( For instance, I doubt she would take the "needle work" very well. Among other things. )

Yeah, I doubt that. I think it means we both suck at, you know, dates and things.

It's like Einstein and his socks minus atomic energy.

This entire week I've been positive it was July, and now my world is shaken to the core! Upon finding out that it was not, in fact, the year 2005 I was not sure if I could go on. Titor take me home.
