Sounds like the communication issues are on their side.

Been talking to a guy on the rig who will be training up someone to replace him in a few weeks. Young, friendly Eastern European guy. Vegetarian, Hare Krishna. Apparently also the worst misogynist I've ever met.
Started talking about how women are evil, they should look after the children instead of imitating men. Just, wow, did not expect that. Three other guys in the room and it got really really quiet.

Starting to wonder about applying for the job if it means spending much more time with the little monster.

Unfortunately, in my experience, it's not an uncommon viewpoint to be held by Eastern European guys. :(

The funny thing is Bag, the job will be mostly paperwork. Haven't found out who has the position yet.

Didn't get the job, so today I made mention of the fact that Croatia's new president is a woman.

i was looking for a reaction button but there aren't any here.

anyhoo, work is going well, as well as can be I guess in anything oil related right now. My managers have apparently put in for my promotion a couple of times but promotions and raises are on hold and have to approved by like our senior VP...so sucks for me. I'm on a really cool project though that will hopefully hit the water in a couple of weeks.

oh also, in case i didn't mention it earlier, i am no longer in aerospace but am back in the oil patch. don't have a ton of choices in Houston for mechanical engineers, honestly.

Oil is slowed down everywhere. I'm back onto a pipelayer for 4 weeks on Friday. After that I don't know when I'll have work again. :-/

yeah, the oilfield is much more harrowing when oil bbl < 40

We've been through several rounds of layoffs already. my company for whatever reason keeps the amount let go each time below the threshold that they'd have to report it to the workforce commission. which is a little shitty. i'm not sure of the total number at location at this point but based on the number of empty parking spots it's probably well over a hundred.

not sure i'll make it through the next culling

as a distraction i've been teaching myself computer science. well, using online courses to do so. it's not like i'm independently deriving principles of computation.
