Family Ties

Postby Dynagrip » Fri Apr 22, 2005 3:12 am

So, here's a thread to bitch and vent about your family.

My brother has decided that his career is more important than everything else in his life. He's pushing himself pretty hard and I'm genuinely concerned. So, I sent him an e-mail outlining my worries and thoughts. This, as expected, didn't work at all and maybe even expanded the wedge that's growing between us.

There are many things he's done that are completely shitheaded. When he does them he feels that the target has no right to be offended. At least when I'm a shithead I acknowledge that people can and probably should be pissed at me.

I love the guy, he might be a total dick, but he's my little brother and I still feel like I should look out for him when I can. He always ignores my advice though. When it turns out to have been good advice, he will sometimes ask why I didn't give him a head's up. He's kind of a bullheaded shit like that.

Oh well, I hope he doesn't have a nervous breakdown. If he does, I can at least tell him "I told you so!"

He did write me a reasonable letter back. That's the way these things always seem to go.

My brother is not speaking to any of us. He's a whiny bastard anyway.

I'm not sure if I'd be considered an exiled member of my family or not. I am the black sheep in terms of not being ultra christian so I feel uncomfortable around them sometimes. Like they're in a club that I failed out of.

I've got a restraining order out on my father, as does the rest of the family. We play a little game where he breaks the restraining order, we call the cops, and he scurries away like the fucking cock-roach* that he is.

In fairness, we've been building 'ground zeros' near Iraqi mosques since March 2003.

Mine's in Florida somewhere. We never see him, and I think my mother is the only one that still speaks with him.

Well, I'm finally back in contact with my mother.

My father said he'd disown me if he ever found out I had contact with her. It probably won't happen any time soon, but I can see it happening in a few years time. He probably won't disown us, just rant and rave every time we visit.

Either way, it's a chance we're prepared to take. I've spent my whole life being scared of my dad and step-mum. Time to stop all that, me says.

Mother's Day went fairly well. It was pretty cool hanging out with Beth's family and I had a good time with mine. My brother is still being a bit of a jerk though. Maybe when finals are over he'll be cool again...

Yeah, right.

Mother's day was a little bizarre, and went about like this.

Me: "Happy Mother's day" *hands box to mother*

Mother: "Happy Birthday" *hands box to son*

That was about it.

My mom's dirt easy to shop for.

Me: "What do you want?"

Her: "A Salad spinner"

Me: "Ok"

<fast forward>

Her: "Ooooh a salad spinner"

<proceeds to play with it and giggle at the spinning contraption>

Happy Mother's Day Pablo!

My younger brother has a top hat, a cape and a leather wristband, which he wears to parties. I feel responsible. I should have beaten him up more when we were younger.

Happy belated, Kauser.

It's always fun to get a call from your mom, while you're at work, that is expressely designed to make you feel like complete and total shit, and then to have her hang up on you. Nothing quite works the same to make you want to ram your car into a bridge support on the way home.

My sister. Oh dear, where to begin. To cut a long story short, she has a me-first mentality and a persecution complex too. Everything has to be on her terms. And she wants me to meet her at some point this week. Joy.

Today is my brother's birthday. I told him happy birthday via e-mail and I guess I have to have dinner with them this friday or something.

Eh, you should just pretend you don't have a brother. I'm an only child, however, so perhaps it's easier for me to say something like that than it is for you to actually do it.

It's not in my nature to completely cut off family unless they're incredible shits. My brother is making a run for it, but he's not there yet. Granted, he did basically say he was going to cut me off, so whatever.
