The cottage is about n-million years old. I'm pretty sure the walls are slanty. After all, they're about a billion inches thick, all uneven, all sloping etc etc.

But it could be the curtain. Should I mail the owner and ask for a refund? :-)

I finally got around to downloading all of your stuff, robsoft. I don't know if it's all been posted in this thread, but I just went to the ftp and grabbed everything in the .../members/rob/music folder, which ended up being about 98 MB of music. I've already heard a fair amount of it, and so far my favorites are Almost Out Of Time and Let Me.

Heh.... I'm not sure I've posted links to all the stuff in there. :-)

"Almost Out Of Time" - that's interesting, as it's something I really enjoyed doing at the time but since then, pretty much everyone else has expressed dislike (or at least, disinterest) in that kind of stuff. I did a sort-of mini project called Meanwhile, Elsewhere which was sort-of me fucking around with electronic stuff. Bits of it are still kicking around on mp3.com, I think.

Anyway, thanks for listening to it.

There's just the last track missing, "Angelina", from the Baffle, Pop & Crackle project, then it gets put to bed. Plut is going to help me complete/package it when she has the time. The next week or so will see the anniversary of "Let Me", which I recorded for Plut and which started the whole Baffle... project off. So it's fitting she should have a hand in finishing it all off!
There's more about Baffle... and the demo recordings & lyrics for the other 15 tracks on it, hosted on my website.

I've already started working a little on the next project, which I'm considering calling Smileyhappylaughterjoy. It's a little harder than the majority of the Baffle... stuff; I've started playing more with simple drum beats, bass and guitars; lots of feedback, delayed and ebowed/sustained notes.
And very very croaky, semi-spoken words. I feel like it might be darker. Dark is a good place for me, I'm much more comfortable with it.
I have 2 songs written for this project already "Just Don't Believe" and "Slave", both of which will appear on the website shortly.

And that's enough shameless self promotion for one evening.

I've been waiting ever so patiently for that track.
Plut is going to help me complete/package it when she has the time.

I'm working on it in class all the time. I have to switch pages when the professor comes around.
"Slave"

It's not like a "I'm a Slaaaave for you" Britney Spears type of thing, is it?

Sorry for all the quotes.

I know you've been waiting hon. Sorry. :-(

I haven't got this stuff cleaned up and ready for the site, yet, but if it helps the rough lyrics for "smiley" thus far are:

Just Dont Believe (fairly up tempo, a little like the poppier "Baffle" stuff)

I dont believe in you
And I just don't believe in me
It's been such a long time
Since the good things happened to me

I don't believe in god
And I just don't believe in fate
Nothing up there for me
At least nothing that wouldn't wait

I don't believe in hope
It slowly wears your edge away
I don't believe in pain
Just the times when the numbness fades

I don't believe in best
And I just don't believe in worst
Human kind is racing
Chasing dreams is our mortal curse

There was a point, long time ago
But I was young and didn't know....

Slave (the darkest noise thus far)

I care for you so
I do it when I don't even know
For you, everything
You rule my world, my life within

My blood runs for you
I eat, I drink; I sleep for you
I see the stars above
I cannot act or think from you

Late at night when you almost sleep
I muse what life could be about
If I could live without you

Then you stir, my hands, my feet
Amused that I could ever doubt
That I could live without you

Letter Never Sent (darkish, quite up-tempo though)

Tumbledown wheezing, all out of time,
You got your rewards, I got all mine.
Jumbled up writing, words make no sense,
You took the good times, I got what's left.

If I could write the words to make you see,
The way I'm feeling now....
If I could find the lines I'd take the time,
And spill it out somehow....
And though every day the sun comes up,
I write this in my head....
Still every day the sun goes down,
My letter never sent.

You were so special, you were the one,
Wrapped up inside you, I was so wrong.
Time is a healer, so they all say -
Age bring me wisdom, take this away.

Now that I'm older, found my free will.
I'm that much colder, standing quite still.
Dizzy Miss Lizzy, messed with my head,
You took the happy, I kept the rest.

The three above have been written over the last week or so, since Cosy Nook. They're a long way from ready, just sketches right now.

The track "So Low" that I did electronically and never finished, plus "Too Many Times", and new ideas "The Empty Vessel Makes The Loudest Noise", "One-Way Mobile" and "A Wonderful Lie" are the other tracks I'm expecting to work on for this project.

There are some sleeve notes for Baffle on the website now. http://www.citadeloftruth.com/members/r ... text.shtml

I thought that most of these songs were ones you'd recorded long ago and had tucked away, waiting for the inevitable dust-off that such things as forums would call for.

And here's the annual Plut birthday song, well a version of it.

This is called "Angelina", and it's supposed to be a very slow guitar waltz.

Trouble is, I can't play the Bb chord that it revolves around.

And tonight, fucking around with my little desk, a keyboard, a microphone far too close to m'gob and some weird electronic processing shit, this fell out.

I call it the "angel" mix. I don't know why. I'm a bit of a fucker when it comes to these things.

But, this is for Plut. Just like "Let Me" was. And, if I can ever figure out how to record it, just like the proper version of "Angelina" would be.

Wise old men say, "never mix a song using headphones".

Silly Rob ignores this.

Silly Rob listens to playback on a normal setup, much later.

And only hears the too-loud dodgy mumbled vocals. Hardly hears any of the backing tracks.

And realises that Wise old men are, indeed, in matters of mixing, truly wise.

No more headphones on whilst mixing. You listen "under" the prominent stuff and hear the detail in the backing tracks, without realising that out in the real world, this detail will get lost again under the more prominently mixed stuff.

Obvious really, but another step in the learning process. :-)

Yeah; so I've gone from mixing the vocal down too quiet to mixing it up too loud. Sorry!

Rawk!

Another track to throw into my Rob folder.

When I get to England, I'm going to bring a folder and just throw you into it, direct like.

Because I care.

*blush*

When Plut & I have finished deciding how we're going to present it, I'll make sure you get your own personal copy of the CD. :-)

I saw your Elliot Smith rip on TwoBit. Nicely done, judged just perfectly. I must thank you for previously turning me on to Elliot Smith, he's definitely become an influence on me - not that you'd know from that particular track, of course. :-)

First thing I thought when Angel started playing was "Belle and Sebastian." If band members from Belle and Sebastian start killing themselves in the next few months I'm going to be really scared.

Now Rob, where does this electronic backing goo come from? Because I was messing around with my guitar yesterday (actually playing something real, you know), and I thought it'd probably sound better if it had stuff behind it.

I enjoyed it, too.
