That's quite a commitment. I hope you make it. Post it when it's done!

And Lethe, there are more Muse videos at their official site.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it or not, but in any case it should be fun. From their page:

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over talent and craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

I think it'd be fun, but I don't have anything to say and I don't know if I could do it. It would be cool if I wrote a chapter, then handed it off to someone else to write the next one, and then we'd just keep taking turns to write it. Addendum: like Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett must've done with Good Omens. That book wasn't any good either.

Maybe a children's book! I'll be the next JK Rowling. I'll make a squillion bucks.

Apparently that is the point!

I also think the team writing thing might be cool, but it might take too much time to read the previous chapter and try and build on it, etc.

Well then you write a chapter then write a one-to-two paragraph plot summary for the next person. It doesn't get included in the book.

OR DOES IT

Addendum: I just realized something. This is during November, ie. month of Halo 2 and Metroid 2. I'm out.

What's to stop you from cheating by starting the book now?

Wow. You mean people normally read their own writing and amend it? I just open notepad and type whatever until I get bored. Then I submit it and go to bed.

Those of you who are interested, are you actually going to sign up for it or simply make an independent attempt?

I am signed up as plut.

Damn it, that sounds amazing. But I'm with Bag on this: halo 2 and school should take up any free time I have, so I'm out.

My best friend and her boyfriend are doing an epistolary novel. I don't know if that means they only have to do 25,000 words each.

I keep wanting to do this, but don't have any ideas. Maybe I'll make a thinly-veiled novel about my life.

Turkish mentioned this to me. I'm tempted to try it but I'll be out of town the first week of November on business travel. Hell, I can't believe I'm getting sent on business travel.
