Eugene (and other junk!)

Postby . » Wed Dec 20, 2006 1:20 pm

Okay, I am going to post some sketches and crap from the little booklet I am making for my favourite nephew. You'll also get to see my creative process. Yay! I only have one scanned in right now. His name is Eugene.

plut, that is really good so far. You know how I roll, so I'm telling the truth here. I like the design a lot. Sad and yet whimsical too. Can't wait to see more and maybe with color too if you're doing that.

Poor Eugene. He's sad because he can't open jars.

(I really like it..)

Heh, I love the frowny face in the middle.
"I'm gonna name it after Nancy!" "What, Pushover?" "Yes! Because that's what she does!"

Nice. You even do character design like a real artist - multiple shots from different angles. I applaud you, I never have the patience for that.

That's alright, he now moves about in a wheeled barrel.

And Foo, there are only multiple angles on this one because I know I will have to draw him in more than the 3/4 view.

He also reminds me of a sketch of a critter I did once. They both have the rounded bellies and long necks. Mine didn't look as sad though. More angry really.

Okay, this has nothing to do with the Eugene book. I am just thoroughly impressed with myself with these three cuttings I did the other night. These are from pictures my grandmother had in her house for decades. They aren't highly detailed only because the pictures they are based on were only in the background of all the pictures.

Image
This one is actually bright red. My scanner is old. The paper got torn on the way home. It was between pages of my sketchpad.

Image
The parts that look darker are because little white specks were all over it for some reason. I took them out.

Image
You can see the creases on this one. Oh well.

I'm also getting these tattooed on me. Yep, that's how much I like them. And they remind me of my grandmother.

Wow, those are incredible. I really like the middle cut-out one.

The little duder thing in the first post is quite rad too.

PS: Oh hi.

I liked the woodcuts but I want more Eugene sketches. Stupid plut and her lack of organizational ability.

All three are great, but I like #3 the most.

I don't think they're woodcuts, but I could be wrong. They look more like cut paper. Which makes them even more awesome, because that must have been difficult to not tear while cutting.

God, Dyna, you're so needy!

I'll post another character (probably two) tomorrow.

You are so slow. I sent you a review in exchange. You are probably not accepting them any more, but still, there will be others, and soon.

I know. That's why I will never be a successful artist. Yes! That's the only reason.

A review? Fantastic! I promise I will post another Eugene drawing, just for you.

Cal, I went through probably 6 blades just to make sure they were always sharp. The red one I actually did twice. The first ripped about 1/3 of the way through.

For you Dyna:
(I had planned on naming the "bird" guy, Jed and Ted, but I haven't decided at all on the other one. The bear in the one tentacle will also be replaced by a monkey, as my nephew sleeps with a little stuffed monkey.)
